Today Radio Iowa begins a series which gives you a sneak preview of the items included in a brand-new exhibit at the State Historical Building in Des Moines. Eric Clapton won’t be playing the venue, but the curator of the state historical museum exhibit put the electric guitar in his collection of “A Few of Our Favorite Things: 100 Creations of the 20th Century.” Curator Jack Lufkin says the electric guitar was introduced in 1931.Lufkin gives three men credit with developing the electric guitar: Leo Fender invented the amplifier, and two other guys — George Beauchamp and Adolph Rickenbacker — collaborated on “electrifying” the guitar. The exhibit at the State Historical Building opens December 16th. Admission and parking are free.
