Governor Tom Vilsack says his trade trip to Japan last week to push soybeans was a success. He says they expect organic soybean sales to increase by 50-percent and non-biotech organic soybeans to increase by 15 to 20-percent over the next year. Vilsack says Japan’s economy is the only thing holding back trade at this point. He says Japan’s economy is not as strong as the U-S economy and that limits their ability to make purchases. Vilsack says Iowa can accurately separate biotech grains from regular grains, which is a plus to the Japanese. He says Iowa’s standard could become a national standard for crops sent to Japan. Vilsack and a delegation of soybean producers and processors spent last week in Japan and returned this past weekend.
