An Iowa State University religion and philosophy professor is in New Zealand for a hearing today on genetic engineering. I-S-U professor Gary Comstock says 12 years ago, he was opposed to genetic modification of seeds.Comstock says he’s changed his mind, though. He used to be concerned genetic modification would lead to the demise of family farms.Comstock has decided banning biotech-advances won’t save family farmers, and he got over the idea that it’s wrong to tinker with nature.Comstock will talk about such “bio-ethical” issues today in Wellington, New Zealand. He’ll be testifying before the New Zealand Royal Commission on Genetic Modification. That panel of scientists will make recommendations to the government on the future of genetically altered crops in that country.
