Search for priests heads to the web

November 25, 2000 By admin

Iowa Catholics aren’t just looking to heaven for new priests. They’re also looking in cyberspace. The Diocese of Des Moines has launched an Internet website to promote vocations in the priesthood.Father John Acrea says the website includes areas for news and reflections on “the calling” for people in many stages of life — including grade school, high school and college — as well as people who are looking for a new career.Father Acrea says some 80-percent of young people turn to the World Wide Web first when they’re looking for a vocation. He says there are about 80 churches in the regional diocese and several of them could use some new blood. He says it’s a rewarding profession that gives a lot of meaning to someone’s life. The website is at “www.vocationsonline.com”.
