Iowans who are interested in learning mouth-to-snout resuscitation now have the opportunity. Three Iowa chapters of the American Red Cross are offering courses on Pet First Aid. Sue Triplett teaches one of the courses in Des Moines, which began earlier this week. Triplett is the health and safety director for the Central Iowa Chapter of the Red Cross. She says people learn C-P-R for dogs and cats, how to save a pet from choking to death, and yes, mouth-to-snout resuscitation. She says the students practice on lifelike anatomically correct dog and cat manikins.Triplett says the manikins are very realistic — but they don’t bark or meow once revived. The Pet First Aid courses are also now being offered by Red Cross chapters in Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.
