Davenport mother faces life in prison for killing son

November 28, 2000 By admin

A young Davenport mother faces the rest of her life in prison after being convicted Monday of murdering her toddler son. 23-year-old Sonia Rocha was found guilty of suffocating the 18-month-old boy, Erardo, last fall. She allegedly was angry because the boy and his sisters had messed up the house. Prosecutors say Rocha put the child in a sink filled with scalding water to try and make the death look like an accident. Scott County attorney Bill Davis says the defense suggested Rocha’s mother killed the baby, but jurors didn’t buy it.Rocha will be sentenced next month. She faces a mandatory life term.
