Local law enforcement officials from across the state are going to class today. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office is holding a two-hour training course on Iowa’s open records law. A-G spokesman Bob Brammer says the course was prompted by an Iowa newspaper survey, which showed many law enforcement agencies, broke the law by refusing to turn over public records. Brammer says 900 people will take the course at 65 sites on the Iowa Communications Network.Brammer says it’s not always easy to determine which records should be made public as there are also privacy laws that impact some public documents.He says the response to this course shows Iowa police and sheriff’s departments want to comply with the law.The course is being led by two Deputy Attorneys General.
