The Iowa State Patrol says reports from across the state show a big decrease in fatal accidents during the Thanksgiving Weekend. Patrol Spokesman Robert Hansen says there were two fatal crashes, six less than last year, and the lowest since 1992. Sergeant Hansen says the fatalities may’ve been prevented. Both crashes involved single cars and investigating troopers believe the occupants would not have died had they been wearing seatbelts. Hansen says there were fewer overall violations this year.Hansen says the Patrol hopes the decrease in violations is due to drivers being more careful. The Patrol had extra troopers on the highways as part of a national effort to reduces deaths and accidents. actuality log
