Drake University will retain its division one-double-a football program. The future of the program had been uncertain since early in the Fall when a University Program Review Committee recommended a study of the cost of the program.University President David Maxwell says that eliminating the program would have a negative effect on the gender balance, student recruitment, student diversity, and alumni and community support.He says there are more productive cost management strategies than the elimination of the football program.Drake finished 7-4 this past season and grabbed a share of the Pioneer League championship.
