The Iowa State Cyclones will head to Phoenix, Arizona later this month for their first football bowl game in 22 years. Iowa State Coach Dan McCarney accepted a bid to the inaugural “Insight.com” Bowl against Pittsburgh just prior to his team’s annual banquet Sunday.The December 28th football game will be the first ever in the BancOne Ballpark which is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team.McCarney says ISU was negotiating with three different bowls over the last few weeks, but he didn’t really have a preference.McCarney hopes Cyclone fans will snap up tickets for the game.It’s been 11 years since Pittsburgh has been to a bowl game and McCarney says that should make for an interesting game.I-S-U finished the regular season at 8-3 and Pitt had a 7-4 record. Iowa State Athletic Director Bruce Van De Velde worked with McCarney to pick the bowl game.Van De Velde says the Insight.com committee selected Iowa State over several other schools, including Texas A&M. After the bowl announcement senior Quarterback Sage Rosenfels of Maquoketa and receiver J.J. Moses of Waterloo were named the Cyclones’ most valuable players.The I-S-U ticket office will begin selling general public tickets for the Insight.com Bowl, today. Cyclone ticket manager David Crum says there are two ways to order tickets, by calling the ticket office or online at www.cyclones,com.Crum says the tickets will be sold until they are all gone.
