The Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants to expand a program that recycles materials from demolished buildings. D-N-R Waste Management Assistance Division spokesman, Jeff Geerts, says they are accepting proposals for developing a recycling center in eastern Iowa. The D-N-R estimates there’s 115-thousand tons of construction material in that part of the state that can be recycled. Geerts says an operation in central Iowa has had good results, and it would serve as a model for the new facility.Geerts says they’ve found many new uses for the old material. He says the effort could expand to other areas of the state as there is a lot of other material that could be recycled.Geerts says they’re looking for someone in Cedar, Clinton, Dubuque, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Muscatine or Scott County to develop the eastern Iowa project. The state has around 450-thousand dollars in financial incentives available to help the company get started.
