All lanes of traffic on Interstate-80 are closed in eastern Iowa’s Johnson County at mile marker 2-3-4. Highway Patrol Lieutenant Roger Brown says two semi-trucks collided this morning on the ice and wrecked in the ditch west of Coralville between the Tiffin and Oxford interchanges. One overturned truck is leaking liquid oxygen that’s causing the most trouble, as that chemical is dangerous. Brown says hazardous materials teams are on the scene, trying to contain the leak. Brown says liquid oxygen could explode as the temperature increases. He says a crane may have to be brought in to “right” the trucks while another special vehicle may be needed to off-load the chemicals. The closure of I-80 is expected to last several more hours, perhaps as late as six o’clock tonight. He says only least one injury is reported in the wreck. One of the truck drivers was critically injured and has a broken neck.
