MADD President wants Iowa’s drunken driving limit lowered

December 7, 2000 By admin

The national President of “Mothers Against Drunk Driving” was on hand Wednesday as Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack signed a proclamation declaring December “Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month.” Mille Webb of Tennessee says she found out about drunk driving first-hand when her daughter and a nephew were killed in a drunk driving accident in 1971.Webb suffered severe burns over 70-percent of her body from the accident.Webb says she was in Washington, D.C. in October when a national law was signed setting the standard for drunk driving at point-oh-eight. She encourages Iowa to lower its limit.Vilsack chastised Iowa lawmakers for failing to lower Iowa’s drunken driving standard last year. Vilsack says it seems to be a relatively simply measure to pass. The state stands to lose some federal funds if it does not lower the blood alcohol limit to point-oh-eight to meet the federal standard.
