Iowa State and Iowa meet in basketball rivalry

December 8, 2000 By admin

The 53rd meeting between Iowa State and Iowa is tomorrow in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game is viewed as a battle for supremacy in the state but Iowa coach Steve Alford does not see it that way. Alford says he’s always believe his team was the top team in the state and says I-S-U coach Larry Eustachy probably feels the same way.Alford says the question of the state’s top program is open to debate. He says the media and fans can debate the issue and that makes it a good rivalry, but he says he’s never looked at his program as being second to anyone in the state. Both teams are 6-0.
