Red Cross gives gifts to Central Iowa children

December 9, 2000 By admin

Some children won’t have to wait until December 25th to get presents. On Saturday, volunteers for the American Red Cross will distribute close to three thousand holiday bags. Central Iowa chapter member Margie Conrad says the event helps at-risk families. The bags were decorated by local families and youth, and are stuffed with donated items and items purchased with cash donations.Bags contain items such as school supplies, winter caps and gloves, various toys and stuffed animals. Last year, thirty-two local agencies submitted names of children who benefited from the event. The event begins at 9 A-M and covers four counties including Polk, Warren, Marion, and Madison. At 11 A-M, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will also be making an appearance at the Red Cross office.
