Road conditions were reported as normal winter driving conditions across the entire state today following Monday’s big snowstorm. Dennis Burkheimer oversees the winter operations of the Iowa Department of Transportation. He says crews worked around the clock and the sun has come out.Burkheimer says the sunshine is important because it warms the pavement and allows snowplow drivers to use chemicals to melt the snow and ice.Burkheimer says blowing snow caused a lot of problems for crews Monday. He says they’ll get a chance to catch some rest today after hours of work.He says most Iowans anticipated the storm and there weren’t many problems with stuck cars along the state highways. Burkheimer says it is good to remember to give the snowplows plenty of room when they’re out.Burkheimer says state crews are responsible for around 12-thousand miles of roadway.
