A prayer vigil is scheduled for this afternoon on behalf of the nearly-700 union workers who have been on strike from Titan Tire for 30 months. The Des Moines vigil is being organized by the Iowa Faith and Labor Committee, where Kathleen McQuillen is a spokeswoman.McQuillen says more than 400 members of different church denominations in central Iowa have signed letters to Titan C-E-O Morry Taylor, calling for a return to the negotiating table.The United Steel Workers Union has been striking the Des Moines tire factory for two-and-a-half years. McQuillen says her group, representing people of many faiths, has to support the oppressed workers.The vigil is scheduled for 4:45 p-m at the U-S-W-A Union Hall in Des Moines.
