Judge says "No" to new Watkins trial

December 14, 2000 By admin

Heidi Watkins will -not- get a new trial in the January beating death of her two-year-old daughter Shelby Duis.Watkins was found guilty of child endangerment in August but her attorney requested a new trial, claiming there was new evidence, and got the case reopened. The judge decided to throw out most of last week’s testimony from Watkins’ former boyfriend, Jesse Wendelsdorf, who said he told fantasy stories to his new girlfriend about his role in the killing and his alleged confession. Watkins’ new trial motion was denied. Watkins was confirmed guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. She’ll be sentenced on December 28th.
