From southwest Iowa to southwest Asia — about 120 Iowa National Guardmembers are being called to active duty and they’ll ship out next month.Guard spokesman Colonel Robert King says they’ll deploy to the Persian Gulfregion to support U-S forces enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq.Colonel King says most of the troops are from southwestern Iowa as theDenison-based battalion has company locations in: Atlantic, Council Bluffs,Carroll, Clarinda, Corning, Glenwood, Mapleton and Shenandoah.The colonel says these troops will be gone about 120 days.Soldiers from other Iowa Guard units are being called up as well. Thesendoff will be January 17th for Camp Dodge, Corning and Council Bluffs andJanuary 18th for Denison.
