The State Fire Marshal is urging Iowans to get rid of crispy Christmas trees. Fire Marshal George Howe says “live” trees are drier than you think, partly because furnaces have been working harder during this cold snap.Howe says a dry tree is dangerous and can go up in flames in seconds.Howe has an artificial tree.Some Iowa cities grind up live Christmas trees for mulch, so the evergreens have to be free of all decorations when they’re put on the curb.
