Senator Charles Grassley says the ailing “dot-com” industry has a point when it asks for tax cuts. One proposal would reduce the five-year-long “depreciation schedule” for investments in software or research and development. Grassley says with such rapid turn-around for technology equipment, the “dot-coms” have a case.But Grassley says 70 percent of federal taxes are paid by individuals, and businesses should take a back seat when it comes to who gets tax cuts. Grassley is the incoming chairman of the Senate Finance Committee which drafts federal tax law.
