Builder won’t use Loess Hills soil

December 27, 2000 By admin

The builders of a new arena/convention center for Omaha will NOT go to Iowa’s Loess Hills for dirt to fill in around the complex. Preservationists protested when they assumed the fill dirt would come from the Loess Hills, which were formed centuries ago by glacier dust. The contractor, however, plans to use Nebraska dirt and NEVER intended to use soil from the Loess Hills.
