Sioux City plans for 84-million dollar riverfront project

The city council in Sioux City has approved plans to develop an 84-million entertainment complex along its riverfront. The city will ask for 33-million dollars from the state’s Vision Iowa program to help pay for the “River’s Edge” project. Sioux City Mayor Marty Dougherty says the plan includes a 10-thousand seat events center connected to a renovated auditorium, a ground transportation center, a renovated trolley system and the Lewis and Clark interpretive center.Dougherty says the project is good for the western half of the state.The city has already purchased much of the land along the riverfront and Mayor Pro-tem Todd Moss says this project is another milestone in economic development efforts.Moss says the project has broad support.Sioux City officials will send the Vision Iowa request to Des Moines later this week.
