Settlement sends some relief to Iowa gas companies

January 2, 2001 By admin

A legal settlement approved by the Federal Regulatory Commission will give most Iowans some small relief from the high natural gas prices. Iowa Utilities Board spokesman Rob Hillesland says the settlement involves a case that began several years ago. Some miscalculations by Kansas natural gas producers caused them to overcharge customers. Hillesland says Iowa will get a portion of the 52-million dollar settlement.Iowa’s 11-million dollar share of the settlement will be used by natural gas companies across the state to offset the amount they pay for gas. Hillesland says it’s hard to tell exactly how much the settlement money would impact an individual’s bill, as it won’t show up as a direct rebate on gas bills.
