New U-of-I exhibit features history of psychiatric treatment

A new exhibit at the University of Iowa Hospitals looks back on psychiatric care in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visual artist Marguerite Perret helped assemble the exhibit at the U-of-I Medical Museum.Perret says the exhibit gives you a good idea of what patients went through.She says mental illness continues to fight a stigma in society.Perret says there has been a lot of progress when compared to the treatments featured in the exhibit. The exhibit is open from 8 am until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
