There’s a very popular places in just about every town in Iowa today — the car wash. When it’s been snowy and below freezing for the better part of a month, businesses like Mister Car Wash in Des Moines add on staff to handle the stampede when temperatures creep into the 30s and 40s. Manager Alan Krahenbuhl says many people reward themselves, and their cars, with an automatic wash. Krahenbuhl says the car wash industry is full of challenges other people in office jobs might not consider. He says people don’t wash their cars when the temperature drops below 15 degrees, so the weather can really impact business. He compares the weather impact to the construction industry.Krahenbuhl says this is a bonus for early-January, especially after a December that was Iowa’s snowiest and among the coldest on record.
