Governor travels state to push his budget proposals

Governor Vilsack delivered his Condition of the State Address to legislators Tuesday. Now, he’s taking the message on the road. Vilsack spoke to various citizens’ groups in three Iowa cities yesterday and is going to more cities today. In Davenport, Vilsack talked about his vision for high-tech agriculture in Iowa and its role in the health care systems of the future.Vilsack says technology is helping Iowans grow and expand their opportunities. He praised the state’s effort to launch a computer database that will enable Iowans to obtain many state government services on-line, whenever they need it.Vilsack says his budget proposals target needed advances in Iowa’s educational system that could vault the state into a higher stature, through better-educated future generations.Vilsack spoke yesterday in Davenport, Cedar Rapids and Mason City, while today he’s traveling to Fort Dodge and Sioux City. Later, he’ll visit Council Bluffs, Clarinda and Hamburg. Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson is delivering a similar series of speeches “on the road.” She was in Burlington and Ottumwa yesterday and will be in Dubuque and Waterloo today.
