A 36-year old Ames man faces conspiracy charges for allegedly trying to smuggle electronic equipment out of the county. Ames Police Department spokesman, Mike Johns, says local officers assisted U-S Customs agents in the case.36-year-old Taquir Khan was arrested on a federal charge of exporting electronics in violation of a federal act. Khan is a former Iowa State University student and allegedly planned to smuggle the equipment to Pakistan. Johns says the arrest came following a Customs Department investigation. Khan’s brother was also arrested yesterday in Kansas.
