Young Iowans who have dreams of soaring into the sky have about three weeks to transform that dream of flying into a picture on paper for the Aviation Art Contest. Roy Criss is coordinating the project through the Iowa Department of Transportation says the goal of the project is to get kids more familiar with aeronautics, engineering and science. This year’s theme is “My Dream to Fly.” He says by no means do they need to limit themselves to actual aircraft in their drawings.Criss says more than 12-hundred art teachers in schools across Iowa are being mailed brochures about the contest this week. There are three age categories — six to nine, ten to 13 and 14 to 17. Criss says kids have been quite creative in this contest in past years.Winners of the Iowa competition may go on to national and international contests where medals will be presented. Entries have to be submitted to the Iowa D-O-T by February 13th. For details, call (515) 239-1689.
