Group seeks to improve awareness of the African-American arts

A group that aims to promote the awareness and preservation of African-American arts, culture and contributions is holding a celebration event today in Des Moines. It’s called “I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa.” Betty Andrews is co-chair of the third annual exhibition.She says there will be all sorts of story-telling, hand-on artwork, exhibits, soul food samples, and more than 30 performing artists.The event is free and runs from 10 a-m until 6 p-m today at the Iowa State Historical Building in downtown Des Moines.
