Economist says Iowa Economy Slowing

February 1, 2001 By admin

The Midwest economy is headed for a “bumpy landing” according to the latest”Business Conditions” survey from Creighton University. Creighton economicsprofessor Ernie Goss attributes a good part of the downturn to excessiveenergy costs. Goss says he’s like the weatherman during a tornado warning: he’s the bearer of bad news. And Goss predicts storm clouds ahead, based onthe responses of the business leaders surveyed. Iowa’s index tweaked upslightly, but Goss says Iowa recorded a fifth-straight month of slow growth, and he says Iowa’s durable goods manufacturerers are in “particularly weak”economic condition.
