Republican legislators are daring democrat Governor Tom Vilsack to approve their bill which provides 15-million dollars in emergency relief to low income Iowans who can’t pay their heating bills. House Republican Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City says there’s no reason for the governor to veto the bill. He says, “Iowans are going to be pretty cold this winter if the governor has a cold hear and vetoes that.”Vilsack asked for 20-million. Republicans shift money from various state programs to find the 15-million. Rants says the governor “needs to do the right thing for the people of this state” and sign the bill.Vilsack would rather raise the money by extending a surcharge on natural gas bills. Republicans say they’re not interested in continuing a tax that was to expire.
