Workforce Development office in Sioux City to focus on the handicapped

The Sioux City area office of Iowa Workforce Development has won an 89-thousand dollar grant to try and reach an under-served group in the community.I-W-D regional manager Gary Hopp says the money will be used to set up a regional resource team that will identify and eliminate barriers facing disabled people. He says some of the efforts will take place through focus groups and public hearings.Hopp says the number of unemployed handicapped workers is higher than the rate for other workers.The Regional Resource team includes members of I-W-D, Western Iowa Tech, Goodwill Industries, Three Rivers Independent Living Center and Vocational Rehabilitation.
