One of Iowa’s more familiar landmarks turns 25 years old today. The University of Northern Iowa’s UNI-Dome opened two-and-a-half decades ago with a UNI vs. Iowa wrestling meet. Justin Sell, the Dome’s operations manager, says the Dome will be formally rededicated this fall in accord with the University’s 125th anniversary.Sell says the UNI-Dome has been a great facility, hosting hundreds of great games and contests over the years. To mark the birthday, Dome officials plan carnival games for the kids with party hats and Dome cupcakes to be served prior to the UNI-Indiana State men’s basketball game. The UNI-dome was the brainchild of former UNI Athletic Director Stan Sheriff.
