Storm Lake teen found guilty of murder

A Storm Lake teen will spend the rest of his life in prison. A Buena Vista County jury today found 17-year-old Rene Zarate guilty of first degree murder in the stabbing death Jorge Ramos on May 2nd of 1999. The autopsy showed Ramos had been stabbed 50 times. Zarate’s lawyers said he was too drunk to know what he was doing. Zarate was 15 at the time of the stabbing, but was tried as an adult. He’ll be sentenced to a mandatory life sentence on March 5th.
