A key legislator suggests delaying the state’s “Vision Iowa” program which will give state grants to cities and counties to help build major attractions. House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Millage of Bettendorf says the state won’t have to put up the 15 million dollars promised this budgeting year because no projects have been selected yet. He says the 15 million was appropriated to pay the interest on the bonds the program would issue, but they haven’t issued any bonds yet.The state fiscal year ends June 30th. State Auditor Richard Johnson says it’d be a mistake to delay state spending on the Vision Iowa program as it would send bad signals to the bond market. Up to 25 Iowa cities will ask for “Vision Iowa” grants and loans.
