One of the legislature’s top budget men is calling for a little austerity move for lawmakers themselves. House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Millage is suggesting a five-month freeze on travel expenses for legislators and their staff.Millage, who’s a republican from Bettendorf, says lawmakers are asking state workers to be frugal, and legislators need to set an example.Millage believes the state will save tens of thousands of dollars by forbidding travel from now ’til the first of July, when the new budgeting year starts. To make the budget cut, both the House and Senate must pass a resolution.
