A Cedar Rapids-based anti-gun group is protesting a pair of bills proposed in the Iowa legislature. John Johnson, director of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence, says the proposals would keep private the records of Iowans who have been granted permits to carry concealed weapons. Johnson says it’d create a “secret society of armed citizens.” Johnson says Iowans who want to be able to carry a concealed weapon have to submit an application on which they justify why they want to be armed. Johnson says a recent study found there were 23-thousand Iowans who are -not- involved in law enforcement who have permits to carry concealed weapons.
