UNI celebrates new outreach program

The University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls officially unveils a community outreach center in nearby Waterloo today. Al Hays leads the U-N-I Public Policy Center and says the Waterloo program is financed by a federal Housing and Urban Development grant.Hays says the main thrust of the center will be helping Waterloo residents develop neighborhood organizations.He says they’ll serve as consultants, not leaders. Hays says they’ll work with the neighborhoods to develop their own plans.Hays says another part of the program works with the kids in Waterloo. The program helps kids learn to use tools.The 382-thousand dollar HUD grant is for three years.
