With so many snow days, most Iowa schools will be extending the school year into June. Iowa schools are required to convene a 180-day school year, and Senate Education Committee chair Nancy Boettger of Harlan says lawmakers won’t change it because of this year’s circumstances.Most Iowa schools are UN-air conditioned, and many officials say little learning goes on when schools are hot. Boettger doesn’t buy it. House Education Committee chair Betty Grundberg agrees that schools will still be required to meet 180-days, regardless of how many snow days are racked up.
