An Iowa State University study contradicts the common belief that we learn a lot about romance by watching our parents. I-S-U sociology professor Rand Conger says a person’s romantic behavior is more effected by the one-on-one relationship between the child and parent, not by observing how parents treat each other.Conger says the results of the study were a bit unexpected. He says the way parents treat one another also seems to impact the way they treat a child.Conger is a research scientist with I-S-U’s Institute for Social and Behavioral Research. He says the study which produced these conclusions was one that’s been long running. The research is part of the Iowa Youth and Families Project and tracked some 200 Iowa children into their early 20s over 12 years. Conger will deliver a lecture on the study on February 21st in the Sun Room of the I-S-U Memorial Auditorium.
