Maytag C-E-O Leonard Hadley remains committed to keeping the company headquarters in Newton. Hadley cancelled a project last year to prepare for a move. He says he’ll never change his mind on the issue, because efficiency is more important than where executives live. Hadley says every Maytag administrator is within a five-minute walk from his office. Hadley says the idea you can’t recruit quality people to live in central Iowa is simply wrong. Hadley says most appliance companies are located in the heartland, which he says put the companies close to their customers. Hadley retired last year but then returned to the company as C-E-O about three months ago.
