Iowans are speaking out about their power bills in public hearings this week with U-S Senator Chuck Grassley. The Iowa republican is urging President Bush to adopt an energy policy that will help the U-S consumer in the long run and reduce America’s reliance on foreign oil.Grassley wants to see more emphasis on alternative fuels, including biomass, soy diesel, wind energy and corn-based ethanol. Grassley says he’s talked with President Bush about ethanol on several occasions, and continues to push for it to be sold in more markets.Republicans in Congress will soon reveal details of a tax cut package that will include tax credits for energy efficiency as well as the go-ahead for drilling in sensitive lands previously closed-off to oil exploration. Grassley says it’ll also encourage development of “alternative” energy sources.
