A consumer group and union officials joined today to say President Bush’s tax cut plan dooms plans to provide prescription drug coverage for seniors. Iowa United Auto Workers President David Neil says Bush’s tax cut is “bad policy and bad medicine.”Retired Iowa Federation of Labor Vice President Don Rowan says Bush’s prescription drug plan does almost nothing to address the high cost of prescription drugs.Rowan says Bush’s “Helping Hand” plan gives a check to the states with few guarantees seniors will get access to the prescription drugs they need.Iowa Citizen Action Network vice president Deb Stehr says prescription drug coverage simply become part of Medicare.Backers of the Bush prescription drug plan say it helps the neediest seniors and lets seniors choose whether to participate.
