The leaders of the state-supported universities are “shocked” by the budget cuts Republicans plan to press on Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I. In total, the university budgets will be cut by nearly eight-and-a-half if the G-O-P gets its way. Frank Stork of the Iowa Board of Regents which governs the state universities says it would be erosion of services for Iowans attending state universities. The Regents met in Ames yesterday. Stork says campus layoffs are one of their options in the face of cutbacks. The proposed cuts include a nearly four million dollar cut for the University of Iowa; a three-point-three million dollar cut for Iowa State University; and a one million dollar cut for the University of Northern Iowa.
