The Iowa Lottery is adding a new feature to the popular “Powerball” game next month. Lottery Commissioner Ed Stanek says for a dollar extra, you can buy a “Powerplay” multiplier number to go with your “Powerball” ticket. The Powerplay number is chosen by the spin of a special wheel. Any prize you win, other than the jackpot, is multiplied by the Powerplay number. Stanek says the numbers on the wheel go from one to five. As an example, if you won the second place prize of 100-thousand dollars and five comes up on the wheel, you win 500-thousand dollars. He says the wheel is unique. A chip will fall out of the wheel, drop through a “pachinko” grid, and land on one of the numbers. Stanek says this is an attempt to spice up what’s already a very popular game. Stanek says the additional money spent for a Powerplay number will all go toward the Powerplay prizes and will not impact the size of the Powerball jackpots. Powerplay begins March 4th.
