The “Greens” will be gathering at 13 county courthouses Monday to register to vote. Iowa Green Party Secretary Holly Hart says the idea is to find out who’s interested in becoming a part of the party.Hart calls the Green Party “progressive” and she says its philosophies are based on ecology.About 25-thousand Iowans voted for Green Party Presidential candidate Ralph Nader in the 2000 election, so the party crossed a threshold that means it’ll be listed on ballots in 2002.Hart says the Green Party hopes to run candidates for non-partisan posts, like Mayor and City Council seats, soon to get established in communities across the state. The Green Party’s state convention is set for June 23rd of this year to elect officers and endorse party by-laws. On Monday, there will be Green Party representatives at courthouses in the following counties: Black Hawk, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Linn, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story, Warren and Woodbury.
