To mark today’s 40th anniversary of the Peace Corps, a panel of volunteers in Iowa City will try to lure more people into donating a piece of their lives to volunteerism. Katy Hansen of Iowa City spent two years with the Peace Corps in Nigeria and Uganda. Hansen is director of the Iowa division of the United Nations Association. She says the panelists in tonight’s discussion will include an Iowa National Guard commander, an AmeriCorps outreach specialist and several Peace Corps veterans. Hansen says most people are only concerned with making money in their careers, but she says volunteering can enrich and broaden a person’s existence in many other ways.Tonight’s panel discussion will begin at seven o’clock at the University of Iowa Memorial Union. A similar panel talk was held last night at Iowa State University and it featured a NATO peacekeeper.
