Republican legislators are considering two more ways to trim millions from this year’s state budget. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says the state would save four-million dollars by ordering state workers to take a day off, without pay. There are about 40-thousand full-time workers on the state payroll. The other option under consideration is an across-the-board cut in the state budget. Republicans have outlined about 34-million dollars in budget cuts to specific areas of the budget, like the state universities, community colleges and the highway patrol. Iverson says the G-O-P’s willing to drop that if the Governor has other budget cutting ideas. Iverson and other Republican leaders will meet Monday with democrat Governor Tom Vilsack to review their options. Iverson says the G-O-P will press forward next week with budget cutting plans.
