A new study shows the number of people using liposuction to get rid of unwanted fat has increased 12 percent in the last decade. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery study found liposuction to be the most popular cosmetic surgery in 2000. Janet Hill, the patient relations manager at Wolfe Clinic in Des Moines, says there’s a reason for the increase. She says people are more self conscious about the way they look.Hill says the increase in cosmetic surgery can be linked to a generation that’s reaching middle age. She says “Baby Boomers” want to keep a young look.Hill says liposuction is the “quick fix” for the nine-to-five working American. She says it’s a way for people to get results without taking the time for exercise.Following liposuction, the most popular cosmetic surgeries in 2000 were eyelid surgery, breast augmentation, and facelifts.
